Necessity or nicety?

There are some things in life which we all seem to take for granted these days. For example, hot water. Today made the second day in a row that my shower went from a desirable balmy shower to eye popping, nipple raising, mountain stream temperature cold deluge of alarm.
At the moment…I AM NOT HAPPY! I want a hot shower. I know for a fact that there are millions in the world that live without indoor plumbing, thousands in America even, and many within a stone’s throw of where I’m writing these notes.
I suppose we all assume things like indoor plumbing and hot water are essential and necessary for our life. But, as long as water as a resource is available we can live.
I suppose these same principles should apply to my life in other arenas. While I shouldn’t complain of being out of hot water this morning, I also shouldn’t complain about having basic protections for myself and my family. They would be nice, but we don’t have to have them to survive and live our lives. We can live and have happy moments without the same basic rights f other families, although that security and base of equality sure would be nice to have too.
Well, I’m off to figure out what we can do about hot water on a Sunday Morning… and keep thinking about how to get basic rights to protect my family…How’s your Sunday morning?
